Older Adults & Aging

What Does Geriatric Therapy Address?

Aging can bring significant changes, including retirement, changes in health, loss of loved ones, changes in independence, and adjustments within family relationships. These transitions can affect emotional well-being at any stage of later life.

Therapy can provide older adults with a supportive place to talk about these changes, address emotional concerns, and develop strategies for navigating life’s transitions.

How Can Therapy Help?

Therapy for older adults can focus on both current concerns and the life experiences that shape how they respond to change

Depending on your needs, therapy may help you:

  • Adjust to retirement or other major life changes
  • Cope with grief and loss
  • Manage anxiety, depression, or stress
  • Navigate changes in independence
  • Adjust to changes in health or physical functioning
  • Address family or relationship concerns
  • Develop healthy coping strategies
  • Process difficult or significant life experiences
  • Maintain a sense of purpose and connection

Treatment is individualized and based on the person’s concerns, circumstances, and goals.

Who Can Benefit From Therapy?

Therapy may be helpful for older adults experiencing emotional, relational, or adjustment concerns.

It may also be helpful when family members or caregivers are navigating changes associated with aging and need additional support.

Modern Me Psychology does not currently provide diagnostic testing and may refer clients to outside providers when testing or specialized evaluation is needed.
